Are You Mentally Clocking Out Every Time Politicians Make Headlines? Read This.
By Andrea Cherryl Bautista 20 Oct 2026 113

Tired of seeing politicians make headlines for all the wrong reasons?

Unfortunately, it has become almost inevitable. Now, the whole political scene feels like a circus. Every time you open social media, there is another controversy waiting for you, whether it is another tax burden being imposed on the public or a nonsensical statement that makes you wonder if politicians are playing us for fools.

Whatever the reason, your crashout is valid.

But do not let it get the best of you, sister.

Here are a few tips on how we stay sane without completely disconnecting from the reality we live in.

1. Learn when to log off

Girl, you do not need to witness every episode of this never-ending political sitcom. If scrolling through your feed has become a daily exercise in testing your patience, perhaps it is time to put your phone down. Constant exposure to upsetting news can leave you mentally exhausted, and taking a break does not mean you are ignorant or indifferent. You are allowed to protect your peace without pretending that nothing is happening.

2. Do not let rage bait do its job

Not every ridiculous statement deserves a repost, and not every controversial clip deserves your immediate reaction. Some online content gains attention precisely because it provokes anger. Before sharing a post or joining the digital riot, check the source, read beyond the headline, and make sure the statement has not been taken out of context. Remember, engagement is currency online. Do not let your outrage become somebody else's profit.

3. Know the difference between being informed and being chronically online

There is a difference between keeping up with public affairs and monitoring every political controversy as if your life depends on it. You do not need to know every insult exchanged between public officials to understand the issues that affect your life. Focus on policies, legislation, public spending, and decisions that have real consequences for ordinary citizens. The latest viral argument may dominate your feed today, but the consequences of a government decision can last much longer than the controversy itself.

4. Laugh at the absurdity, but do not mistake it for harmless entertainment

Sometimes, all you can do is laugh. Political memes and satire can offer a little relief when the news becomes overwhelming. But while humor can help us cope, we must be careful not to treat governance as a joke. Behind every policy debate are real people whose livelihoods, education, health, and opportunities may be affected. Enjoy the memes, share the jokes, but remember to look beyond the punchline. Public office is not a comedy gig, and accountability should never be optional.

5. Stop arguing with people who are committed to misunderstanding you

We have all encountered that one person who treats every political discussion like a championship match. You bring facts; they bring insults. You provide context; they change the subject. Before you sacrifice another hour of your life to an endless comment section debate, ask yourself whether the conversation is actually going anywhere. You can correct misinformation, explain your position, and disagree respectfully without having to convince everyone. Sometimes, the healthiest response is to step away and save your energy for a conversation that might actually matter.

6. Turn your frustration into something useful.

Being angry about politics is understandable, but anger alone will not change anything. Once you have processed the latest controversy, channel that frustration into something constructive. Read about proposed laws, verify claims before sharing them, participate in meaningful discussions, support credible journalism, and learn how to hold public officials accountable through lawful civic action. Even small acts of informed participation are more productive than endlessly doomscrolling and feeling powerless.

7. Remember that you are allowed to have a life outside politics.

Your existence does not have to revolve around every government announcement, public feud, or scandal. You can care about the country and still enjoy your favorite show, spend time with friends, pursue your hobbies, and get a good night's sleep. Rest is not betrayal, and having moments of happiness does not mean you have stopped caring about the people around you. You are a citizen, yes, but you are also a person who deserves a life beyond the news cycle.

At the end of the day, sister, the goal is not to become indifferent. It is to remain informed without becoming consumed, critical without becoming cynical, and engaged without sacrificing your well-being.
