This Erik Matti's criticism of Toni Gonzaga is too worthy not to share
By AJ Virtuz 10 Feb 2022 1313

Internationally acclaimed and renowned Filipino Director Erik Matti did not miss a word as he expressed his dismay when he blasted Toni Gonzaga for her “unbothered” response after her controversial hosting at Bongbong Marcos’ and Sara Duterte’s campaign kickoff this week. She also introduced Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, who was among those who opposed the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN Network.

The director, whose political mini-series On the Job: The Missing 8 opened to critical acclaim at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, posted a screenshot of Gonzaga’s Instagram story where the actress-host shared a fan’s post praising her as an “unbothered queen” amidst the social media backlash.

“I cannot fathom anyone, who have access to the same historical facts from our books and [YouTube] like everyone else, can still have the gall to hold their head so high to the point of being so arrogant and obnoxious to brush away critics and dissenters even acknowledging and flaunting it with such an insensitive hashtag,” the director said.

In his Instagram post, Matti stressed that “everyone is entitled to their political stances” but it’s also just right to acknowledge atrocities in history. As an example, he mentioned Adolf Hitler’s Holocaust and Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s Martial Law.

“The victims of both the Holocaust and our Martial Law were all real people with names, families and siblings that walked and talked the earth then and even survived by descendants until now,” he stated. “No one can ever say they didn’t exist.”

The On The Job director then described that Gonzaga’s approach on critics was “arrogant” and “disgusting.”

“You can do whatever you want with your celebrity power and God’s guidance because this is a free world, after all. But to be brazen, arrogant and snooty makes all of it despicable, disgusting and really crude,”

The award-winning filmmaker ended his post with the line “Impunity and apathy run so deep in all of us.”

Other showbiz personalities showed their support to Matti’s comment such as Lotlot de Leon, DJ Chacha, Janno Gibbs, Ina Feleo and John Arcilla via the comments section. Fellow director Quark Henares also expresses his disappointment towards the ex PBB host.
