Uhm, hello, there’s a pandemic, do we need a guidance office here to settle this fight?
On Wednesday, September 30, the raging drama in the four corners of the House of Representatives for the speakership is the newest talk of the town.
Incumbent House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has offered a resignation to make way for Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco as part of the term sharing agreement they have made in July 2019, and the ‘drama’ started when 184 lawmakers have decided to reject it and support Cayetano’s leadership instead.
Before the ’scene’ President Rodrigo Duterte met with Cayetano and Velasco in an apparent move to fix things about the speakership, and sources say that Velasco will take the post until legislators moved the motion for refusing the resignation bid.
On Facebook, Velasco expressed his disappointment about the sudden turn of events and reminded Cayetano of the brokered “gentleman’s agreement” between them which initiated by the President in 2019.
“To Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, it was only last night when you promised to resign on October 14 when the President ordered you to honor the term-sharing agreement,” Velasco wrote.
“I assure my peers that we will be a gracious leader who would listen and be responsive to your concerns. But I make an earnest plea: Let us uphold the dignity of the House of Representatives by being men and women who believe in “Palabra de Honor” in keeping our word and upholding the term-sharing agreement Speaker Cayetano and I swore to honor and respect,” he added.
Cayetano’s resignation drama became a hot topic on PH Twitterverse as netizens didn’t buy it and major shades were being thrown around.
