Three days before election day. Presidentiables, their running mates, and senatorial slates have already staged and are about to stage their miting de avance. The final chance to woo the people. Their last push to court voters. 

The last three months of campaigning across the country have been filled with hope and to this day still surrounded by controversies back to back. Candidates are ending it neatly by staging their miting de avances in their chosen locations.

A miting de avance refers to a public rally conducted by any candidate or political party on the last day of the campaign period.

Presidential aspirant, Filipino socialist and Labor rights activist, Ka Leody De Guzman, joined by slate of Partido Lakas Masa, his running mate Walden Bello and senatorial aspirants Luke Espiritu, Roy Cabonegro, and David D’Angelo, conducted their miting de avance in Quezon City Memorial Circle on Wednesday, May 4.

Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is set to hold a grand event today in Cebu city for his miting de avance and on Saturday, May 7, for another one in his hometown General Santos City.

Likewise, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto will hold a “traditional” miting de avance today, May 6, to end their 3-month long campaign. They will only visit Carmona, Cavite. They are to have a “kumustahan” as Lacson puts it, with residents in areas that are not traditionally being visited by national candidates such as plazas and terminals.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Damagoso is to meet his constituents on the last day of campaign period on Saturday May 7th in Tondo, Manila.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte held a miting de avance on Tuesday in Guimbal town Ilo-ilo for the Visayas leg of their final campaigning, followed by another in Tagum City, Mindanao to court voters in Duterte’s hometown. The uniteam tandem will end their nationwide campaign with a miting de avance near Solaire in Paranaque on Saturday, May 7. 

Vice President Leni Robredo will hold her event today in her home region to do a series of grand rallies in Sorsogon, Legazpi and Naga. On Saturday May 7th her miting de avance will be along Ayala Avenue corner Makati Avenue in Makati City at 5 p.m. This means main rivals Uniteam tandem Marcos-Duterte and Robredo-Pangilinan will hold major events on the same night in neighbouring cities.
