Overseas voting for 2022 Philippine Elections officially kicks off
By Hannah Touchette 11 Apr 2022 753

Exercise your right to vote!

On Sunday, April 10, overseas Filipinos can now officially vote for national candidates in the 2022 Philippine elections. Over 1.6 million are registered to vote abroad – the lowest number since the start of overseas elections in 2004, considering that more than 2 million Filipinos were displaced and were sent back to the Philippines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The voting will be month-long, starting yesterday to May 9, and they will be choosing for national positions such as: president, vice president, senators, and party-list groups.

Voters can vote in person at Philippine embassies, consulates, and other specified polling stations (personal mode) or have their votes mailed to them (postal mode). Voters cannot select their preferred mode; instead, they must check which mode is being used in their host country.

The Philippine posts are required to mail ballots to voters as soon as they receive them from the COMELEC in areas where postal voting is used. Voters must complete and mail their ballots as soon as possible in order for them to arrive at the consulate offices by May 9. This should be provided without charge.

According to the COMELEC, automated elections are used in half of the country's 92 foreign posts. A total of 1,023,637 foreign voters will vote in person; 556,760 voters will vote by mail; and 116,818 voters will have the choice of voting for both.
