Catfishing is using fake personality online to lure someone into a fake relationship. It happens on the social media since it’s easier to pretend to be someone you’re not on that platform.
Have you ever experienced being lured into a relationship with someone whom you thought were real?
Recently, there was a story circulating on Twitter about a transwoman who was catfished by someone.
Sam Morales, a multimedia artist was accused of manipulating transwomen to making them fall in love with her models (whom she threatened to lose jobs if they declined). Morales happens to ghost her victims once they started to fall in love. She also fakes meet-ups, flights, everything to make everything seem real.
One of her victims is Jzan, who happened to spill her story on Twitter which then became viral the same day she posted the thread. She shared how Sam Morales fooled her into believing that the guy she was dating with online is real.
a thread on Twitter posted by Jzan containing a story on how she got catfished by Sam Morales
Sam Morales defended herself (which was part of Jzan’s tweet) saying she had a past trauma involving gays when she was young. She said that she was bullied by gay people all the time.
Continuation of the Jzan’s thread containing Sam’s explanation.
As someone who likewise experienced childhood trauma, it is never okay to use our dark pasts as an excuse to seek revenge upon others, as much as we decry our painful experiences as a child. It is indeed undoubtedly awful that we were not able to avoid such malfeasance as much as we wanted to, but the thing is there’s nothing we can do to deal with what already happened.
True, it is hard to forget about what traumatized us, as the memories still keep flashing and haunting us until today. But the only thing that we can do now is to acknowledge it, and that it’s a part of who we are now, and that we have to move on and let go.
If these wrongdoings continue to get passed on and on – it will never stop, and we will just continue to bleed the people who did not cut us.
