DP Blasts and Clout Chasing, A new target for Red Tagging
By Grace Alcantara 05 May 2022 6960

Display picture (DP) blasts have been a thing for a little while now. Mainly used for school organisations activities or for a distinct cause or campaign. It is when a big number of social media users make use of a curated frame, add their own photos, and paste the same description as to join the trend also known as clout chasing.

According to Dictionary.com, to have clout is to have influence or power. In pop culture, people with clout are seen as popular and cool. Clout is mainly joining the bandwagon, the idea that if everyone is doing it so should you.

Joining in on DP blasts and clout chasing are fun and inclusive for everyone who shares the same interests and values. With election day coming closer, supporters of different political candidates make their own DP blast frames with colours pink, red, green, and blue, and captions to represent their support for their presidential bets. The bigger the number of users of frame for each candidate the better.

It isn’t uncommon on every social media platform to have clashes of different beliefs or online bardagulan but to avoid this we must always think before we click. What we say, post, and comment on social media can be easily twisted and saved by opposing users or trolls who do not believe in the same cause as you do.

Red tagging is very common in social media, it is the malicious blacklisting of individuals or organisations critical or not fully supportive of the actions of a sitting government administration in the country. DP Blasts make it easy to red tag those who support a certain candidate and those who are critical of the current administration.

So before you join in on the trend, always be mindful of what you post publicly on your social media account.
