Fresh off from bagging the endorsement of One Cebu party led by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Marcos Jr., and the UniTeam claimed to have the largest crowd throughout their whole campaign with an estimate of 300,000 on Monday, April 18, at the Filinvest grounds in Cebu.
After losing to rival VP Leni Rebredo in the 2016 Vice-Presidential elections, Marcos Jr., optimistic and hopeful to win this time, returned to court the most vote-rich city in the country.
The 2022 national elections has a different story to tell compared to the 2016 elections, now that Marcos is backed by Gov. Garcia and several mayors and other local officials, who he commended for organizing the rally, saying it is the "largest political gathering" he had attended during the campaign season.
“Ang bilang ngayon nitong rally na ito, ito na ang pinakamalaking rally sa buong kampanya nito. Salamat Cebu sa inyong suporta, sa inyong tiwala,” said Marcos.
According to Lt Col. Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office, he estimated a total of 300,000 people that went to the rally from 2 pm until the program ended at 10 pm.
Although the size of the venue can only accommodate 120,000 people, Parilla said that a lot of people streamed into the adjacent alleyways. And to be a lot clearer, he added that the estimate were based on the people that went from daytime until nighttime, including those who went home before or during the program and not necessarily the people that were present during the main event.
