An Open Letter to PBBM in his 2nd SONA
By ZJ 24 Jul 2023 1978

Growing up knowing how the government works for the nation as well as for its people, we became too critical of how the president would speak for us and how he would change and let the people be freed from the life they were expecting to be changed, just like how every president gets on their throne to change what needs to be changed for the benefit of the nation and its people.

This is an open letter to express our hopes, concerns, and aspirations for the future of our nation. We understand that your State of the Nation Address (SONA) provides an opportunity to communicate your vision and agenda for our country. It is with great anticipation and a sense of responsibility that we, the youth of this nation, eagerly await your words.

Even though the Election has already passed and the new president has already been declared, there are things about which we believe that the 2nd SONA of President Ferdinand “Bong-bong” Marcos will enlighten the nation towards his goal for the country. Every Gen Z has their expectations of what the president would tell his people. You must lead with a mindset that embraces all sectors of society, regardless of age, gender, socio-economic background, or political affiliation. Engage with us, listen to our concerns, and involve us in the decision-making processes that shape our future.

We have this much expectation of your next actions. Some of us are still questioning your leadership for our country.

“Is he fit to be president of the Philippines? Or is he just the face of our country to say that the Philippines has this Marcos president? Can he prioritize our concern? Like education, poverty, and environmental progress?”

Education is a cornerstone of progress, and we implore you to prioritize its improvement. Our generation longs for an educational system that equips us with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world. We call on you to prioritize environmental sustainability and take bold steps to mitigate the effects of climate change. Invest in renewable energy sources, promote eco-friendly practices, and enact policies that protect our natural resources. I fervently hope that your leadership will foster peace and unity in our nation. Uphold human rights, protect freedom of expression, and create an environment that celebrates diversity and respects the rights of every individual.

We, the youth of this nation, implore you to be a leader who listens, understands, and acts in the best interests of all Filipinos. The challenges we face are great, but with visionary and inclusive leadership, we can overcome them and create the Philippines that we can all be proud of.
