For many, to be called a hero during the early times, you must did something huge for your country, you must die for countrymen; but in today’s modern world, you don’t need to do anything but to bear a pure heart and mind to help one another.
Serbisyong Matapat, a digital page which served as a channel particularly in social media which features different noble and heart-warming stories of dedicated Filipino workers whose passion to serve and help others is undeniably huge as their hearts.
This Labor Day, three stories COVID-19 frontliners or warriors have been featured on the page this week to give us a source of sunshine and hope amid this terrifying scenario.
Three episodes have been posted since April 29 until today, April 30, 2020, three stories of different frontliners in different fields of work have been chosen on this series.
EPISODE 1: TULONG (HELP)
Paula Martinez, a devoted Christian member, and a good Samaritan, has decided to initiate a drive for all the frontliners around the vicinity of Signal Village in Taguig City.
Food packs were given to the frontliners prepared by her family and friends.
“Gusto i-share ang blessing na binigay sa’kin ni Lord at gutso ko rin na makita na someone is caring for then,” Martinez said on why she is eager to help others.
Kudos Pau! Continue helping others.
EPISODE 2: KAWANGGAWA (ACT OF SERVICE/CHARITY)
Not only medical workers are considered to be our frontliners in this pandemic outbreak. Volunteers behind relief operations are also part of the frontliners who help in the workforce for the community.
AJ Arcilla, an employee of Taguig City University, has been serving as one of the volunteers for weeks now in the relief operations of Taguig City.
She’s been spending most of her time volunteering herself in food repacking as she found it as a way to make the most of her time this quarantine period.
“Ang gusto ko lang sabihin sa mga kapwa frontliners ko is wag kayo mapapagod na tumulong and ipagpatuloy niyo lang yung gusto ng mga puso niyo,” AJ told in an interview on her best piece of advice she could give to all her co-frontliners.
EPISODE 3: SAKRIPISYO (SACRIFICE)
In the third episode of this week’s series, a doctor named Gregory Opeña who is a general physician is one of the many frontliners who are religiously working this pandemic outbreak.
He’s currently stationed in one of the private clinics in the city of Taguig. He’s the one in charge of classifying the possible covid19 patients from those who are suspected and advised to undergo self-quarantine and those who are negative and free from the virus at the moment he conducted the consultation.
Dr. Opeña’s dedication is evident. No words can really describe how grateful he is in helping others through his chosen passion.
“Ang isang pinakamalaking natutunan ko na dapat po intindihin talaga natin yung ibang tao hindi lang po yung sarili natin it’s not about the ‘me,’ it’s about the ‘we’ sa pandemic,” Dr. Gregory said on what he has learned from this pandemic so far.
You can be a hero. We can be a hero in our own little ways. Always remember the true essence of helping others, not just by gaining fame but thought of adding a good deed to imbibe forever in their hearts and minds.
