Oh no, Tim Yap has been added in 2021 newest talk of the town, and it’s not good.
Social media peeps could not help but express rage over TV host Tim Yap hosted a party in Baguio with city Mayor and contact tracing czar Benjamin Magalong as among special guests.
Photos and videos of the social gathering that later circulated online showed party participants defying minimum health protocols as they appeared to have not observed social distancing and were not wearing face masks and face shields during the event.
Here are some of the reactions from social media:
The celebration in a hotel inside Camp John Hay was held in the midst of a heightened alert in Baguio City due to an upsurge of Covid-19 cases.
Party’s theme included elements of Baguio’s native crafts and culture in his celebration, even having Igorots dancing around the party. Yap was seen wearing “Cordillera accouterments” while riding a white horse led by a couple of Igorots.
Not only the ‘protocols’ were seemingly the issues that night as netizens have noticed the ‘cultural appropriation’ happened in the party which earned the ire of Baguio folks.
In the photos, Yap was also wearing the ulo di kang-o or Ifugao headdress which was traditionally worn by a groom during a wedding.
There was also a mambunong or shaman chanting a blessing to the eventologist Yap.
Mayor Magalong admitted that there were breaches in observing health protocols during the social gathering, which he attended with his wife.
He told Yap “not to worry” about the probe, despite the public backlash.
“Nagusap na po kami kahapon at binanggit ko po sa kanya, I understand what happened. Everybody was just so engrossed, so engaged kaya kung minsan nakakalimutan,” Magalong said in an interview over Teleradyo when asked if he has spoken to Yap.
“Sabi ko sa kanya, but don’t you worry about it. Yung tulong niyo na ginagawa sa siyudad ng Baguio for promoting, for saying good words about Baguio, doon sa aming mga artists, we’re considering all of this. Don’t you worry, we’ll have this thing investigated, Nahihiya sila e,” he added.
Also, the birthday bash gained the attention of the Department of Tourism which said that the agency will investigate the event.
Yup, we all want to go back to the usual things we do--Go outside and party like the virus isn’t there, but here’s a friendly reminder y’all, we all must be responsible that being privileged is not a ticket to get ‘YOLO’ mindset.
Stay at home and follow the rules!
