Making Yourself a Priority in 2022
By Faith Estrella 24 Jan 2022 924

Who would have thought that another year has gone by? Not to mention, 2021 is quite a mix of both bliss and melancholy. A lot of things were taken away while some were given for a new venture. Above all these, it’s quite saddening to know that due to left and right lockdowns and isolation people are more prone to anxiety and depression. In which this thought boils down to a virtue “How can you give something that you don’t have?” Let’s answer that by taking care of your mental health through making yourself a priority in 2022. Here are some take away tips from a life coach and founder of Prime Investments, Juan Miguel Flores.

What can you say about Filipino’s coping mechanism?

Miguel said that coping isn’t just about if you’re trying or not. “Sometimes, people mistaken it by not trying.” He added. Miguel salute how Filipinos coped with the diversity and quick changes caused by pandemic. Moreover, coping mechanism is about how you handle it lightly in spite of crying every night according to him. In which Miguel himself told the audiences that Filipinos are brave and that’s what duels their coping mechanism.

How to not get easily affected by negativity?

“Basically, having an optimistic mind. Though sometimes, positive thinking leads to false positivity.” Miguel answered. Optimism is seeing a different perspective. Also, meditation and silent or pause moments can help the mind, heart body and spirit to be refreshed which helps to refrain from any negativity. Also, muting or unfollowing social media friends who feed your feed with much negativity is highly advised. This is for the benefit of your mental health.

Tips about self-care and improvement

Miguel elaborated it by giving the list below:

  • Personal development must be the top priority
  • A problem will only become a problem if you’re not big enough to handle it.
  • Nothing can ever change until there is a development.
  • Part of self-care is growth
  • If you know some mentors, reach them out. They can help or guide you.
  • Check your core group/s as well. Are they helping you grow?
