On Tuesday, January 26 — Kobe and daughter Gianna Bryant’s death anniversary — a group of visual artists showcased a new mural at the Tenement located in Taguig City to commemorate the legacy of the late NBA legend.
The Tenement Visual Artists — Lenard Galaites, Adrian Piñon, John Bugtong, Kris Paccial, Ariel Piñon Jr., Reynaldo Ramos, Oliver Galaites, Mike Walk, Darwin Domingo, Ernel Llanes and Siegfred Gamboa – unveiled the mural at the Tenement court on Monday, as they posted aerial shot photos of their artwork on its Facebook page.
In an article written by Manila Bulletin, head artist Jerry Llaniguez Gabo said that the tribute is all about the “recollection of Bryant’s joyful days” before the tragedy occurred last year, January 26.
“Our design incorporate[s] the first mural project that we painted last year as our tribute for Kobe & Gianna, [reminiscing] that mournful day when the world lost one of the legends in basketball,” said Gabo in an interview with Manila Bulletin.
“Due also to the [COVID-19 pandemic], we suffered and mourned for a year now as many of the basketball courts are closed,” he added.
The TVA head artist said that the group took four days to conceptualize the design, coming up to some ideas before having to finalize with a mixed concept to create a collage-type mural with different aspects including “monochromatic sketches and realistic centerpiece.”
The Tenement Visual Artists also worked in cooperation with Nippon Paint Coatings Philippines, Inc. to create the mural that honored the late NBA legend and her daughter.
Meanwhile, “The House of Kobe”, located in Karuhatan, Valenzuela, which is the only known gym in the country named after the late Kobe Bryant comes up with activities to commemorate the first death anniversary of the legendary Los Angeles Lakers superstar and his daughter.
The Deputy Speaker Eric Martinez of the 2nd district of Valenzuela City, who spearheaded the construction of the playing facility, lead the various activities prepared for the day.
