The pandemic stole many things from the people — freedom, livelihood, countless lives, and many more. During this time, we saw the best and the worst of humanity. We saw how people’s kindness and generosity went a long way, as well as how the selfishness of others became a virus itself in our society. That applies to how we treat our animals as well.
Animals, especially cats and dogs, are often neglected and just left on the streets. Worst, some live in homes where they are treated like parasites — often being beat up or chained their whole lives, without being fed nor bathed. You see, these animals are living things too. They also deserve to be shown kindness and generosity, even just a little.
Many non-profit organizations have been dedicating their time and lives to support our furry friends, way before the pandemic. Since few people are on the streets and only select establishments are open, stray dogs and cats are having a hard time scavenging for food.
Organizations like Pawssion Project, a rescue group mainly for dogs, have been going all out during quarantine with their stray feeding program, as well as rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming their rescue dogs. They have also been sponsoring stray feeders and other people in need that they met while rescuing or feeding strays.
The Philippine Animal Rescue Team or P.A.R.T, have also launched their own stray feeding operation that they call #MealsOnWheels aside from their usual work.
Animal Rescue PH, who also rescues animals and rehabilitates them to find loving homes, have been resorting to selling merchandize and partnering up with small businesses in order to support their cause.
Most animal organizations do not have government funding and are run mostly by donations. Because of the pandemic, donations for these organizations have been running really low and they have been vocal about their struggles to take care of our animals.
They cannot do it alone. These organizations need us in order to do their work. Whether you donate, volunteer, foster or adopt, neuter or spay, or simply just being kind to strays, you are helping them save more lives.
Again, these animals are living things too. Let us also treat them with kindness and love, because they deserve it. These poor souls are just trying to survive like everybody else — all they need is some food and water, shelter if they are lucky, and people who will not hurt them.
If you do not have the means to help financially, you can always help by not hurting them and just being nice.
If you have a few change to spare, please consider donating to the organizations mentioned above:
