#COVID19PH: Filipino Frontliners who have died fighting the pandemic outbreak
By Jhoemz Vercide 23 Sep 2020 1261

Whenever we heard the word 'death', we automatically felt uneasy and uncomfortable talking about it. There this scary feeling that goes deeper beyond our minds and tends to overthink life.

We all go there one day but it’s just a matter of time and fate, but can you afford to die for your country? Would you let yourself lose in a battle which no one knows when it will end?

This is probably the dilemma being faced by our great medical frontliners and staff every single day as they continue to battle COVID-19, a silent killer in its sense.

The fear that our doctors, nurses, and medical workers are truly indescribable. Any minute they could die as they choose the path to challenge the unseen enemy.

Today, April 1, 2020, the Philippines lost 17 doctors due to the highly-infectious coronavirus disease, said the Philippine Medical Association (PMA). This is alarming really. Not only for the frontliners but in the whole country.

'Thank you' is not enough to suffice the sacrifices and dedication they have given for their beloved country. No words can really describe the pain, especially to the bereaved loved ones.

Let's take a look at our ‘fallen’ heroes as what many say who have risked, fought, and braved life to the pandemic:

Dr. Raul Jara
Cardiologist, Philippines Heart Center

Dr. Israel Bactol
Cardiologist, Philippine Heart Center

Dr. Rose Pulido
Oncologist, San Juan De Dios Hospital

Dr. Greg Macasaet
Anaesthesologist, Manila Doctors Hospital
Dr. Marcelo Jaochicho
Provincial Health Officer/Former Doctor to the Barrio

Dra. Salvacion 'Sally' Gatchalian
President, Philippine Pediatric Society

Dr. Francisco Lukban
Geriatric Cardiologist, Capitol Medical Center

Prayers for the souls and to the bereaved families of these great doctors and now our fallen heroes which truly a huge loss to all of us.

As a nation whose health system is poor, some say we must be all ready ourselves for a catastrophe. We must show compassion and widen our understanding to win this fight.
