A Tribute to Fellow Frontliners: A Nurse Created An Artwork Using Syringes and Needles in Negros Occidental
By Jhoemz Vercide 22 Apr 2020 1203

Medical frontliners are indeed our today’s modern heroes as they continue risking their lives fighting against COVID-19 pandemic.

Imagine the terrifying scenes in every hospital right now in the Philippines—the growing numbers of positive cases, unprotected medical workers, and lack of PPEs and masks.

No words can really describe how painful this crisis for them—especially seeing their fellow frontliners dying before their eyes. These scenes have pushed them to speak up and lead to honor each other in the field as a source of strength and inspiration to carry on.

Kimberly Magbanua, a nurse based from Negros Occidental, has caught the national attention by her artworks using syringes and needles highlighting the lives of her fellow frontliners.

The nurse-painter also wrote a poem entitled “Inang Bayan,” it's like a letter from Inang Bayan (Philippines) to Juan (Filipinos) as the caption of the post that went viral which have made waves in the online world and praised the netizens.

Today, April 22, 2020, Nurse Magbanua posted another artwork depicting the struggles of Filipino healthcare workers amid the COVID-19 crisis. This version was also captioned with a poem entitled as “Ang Pangalawang Liham para kay Juan,” a letter from Inang bayan (Philippines) to Juan (Filipinos)

This pandemic outbreak has truly opened our eyes to see what’s wrong and what must be taken into consideration.

I hope this will give our frontliners the recognition they truly deserved in this country!

Mabuhay kayo mga bayani!
