On Friday afternoon, September 4, the unfortunate news of the YouTube vlogger and influencer Lloyd Café Cadena’s sudden demise started circulating online after the vlogger’s official Facebook page released a statement about Lloyd’s passing which shocked everyone. The announcement was soon flooded with people expressing their grief, mourning, and condolences. Different prominent personalities including the Hollywood superstar Mariah Carey—Lloyd Cadena’s idol and favourite artist, lamented the death of Cadena as she posted on Twitter.
Kween LC—which fans used to call him, was only 26.
Lloyd Cadena has been known with his constant act of kindness. Instead of creating cliché contents in front of the camera, Lloyd had a treatment of a show-don’t-tell approach. He took his viewers through his good-deed process in the same way some beauty vloggers do makeup tutorials. His kindness was always on show, but it never seemed to be just for a show-off, everything was genuine, real, and candid.
In one of his 12 days of Christmas episode, Lloyd documented in his vlog which was uploaded on December 20, 2019 on how he, together with the Bakla ng Taon visited the province of Poroc, Pampanga to distribute school supplies for the Aeta people. In the 11-minute video, Lloyd and his team visited a school that was hit by an earthquake. They also had a feeding program for the kids after distributing the school supplies.
The Youtube superstar also distributed foods for the homeless people as they wandered in the area in Pasay in his vlog uploaded on December 22, 2019—another episode of his 12 Days of Christmas.
Cadena also was a blessing to his neighbours as he had always organized a mini program every Christmas in their community. In his vlog uploaded on December 25, 2019, LC documented the program and the prizes he himself prepared for them.
In one of his most viewed videos that now has almost 4 million views, Lloyd brought four kids in a grocery store and let them buy anything they want. The kids were happy and expressed their gratitude after Lloyd paid all the items they picked.
Lloyd also flew to Cebu and surprised his ‘Ninang Mercy.’ On the first part of the video, Lloyd’s best friend Aivan, introduced herself to Ninang Mercy and said that Lloyd did not come with them. Later on, his ninang was surprised that Lloyd was with them, and gave him his gift as they went shopping and toured the province—a perfect way of giving back to those people who loved him.
In his December 14, 2019 vlog, Lloyd gave away P1,000 cash to different locals in Baguio. The video was filled with emotions as strangers who were mostly senior citizens, were really grateful to Lloyd as he randomly gave them the money. In the middle of the video, LC did not hold his tears after an old vendor insisted on giving her lemons she was selling to Lloyd for free after giving her the cash.
In an August 21, 2020 video followed Lloyd as he went around his neighborhood and distributed tablets to students from his former school La Huerta Elementary, who needed the tablets for distance learning during the pandemic. As Lloyd made the rounds, he spoke to each kid and encouraged them to stay in school.
Perhaps his most enduring act of kindness was to make his mother’s dream of having a home come true. In the last video published on his channel on August 26, Lloyd shared an update on their new house he had bought for his mother, explaining that he decided to do so because she would be retiring soon and he wanted her to experience what it was like to have her own house.
Lloyd Cadena is indeed an angel in disguise. As someone who has been fond of watching his videos ever since he started his vlog in 2011, Lloyd really became an inspiration and a role model to everyone—as a loving son, a caring friend, and a giving person. He may be gone now, but his legacy and act of love will never be forgotten. Rest in paradise, Kween LC.
